Christian Siriano for Lane Bryant
There comes a pivotal moment in your career where you pause, take a step back, and take it all in. The Christian Siriano Lane Bryant runway show was it for me. We are so boots-to-the-floor-soldiers for plus size fashion and moving things forward, sometimes we forget to reflect on how far we have come. Christiano Siriano! Freaking Christian Siriano has created clothing that I can wear. I remember distinctly watching him on Project Runway and him being frustrated when designing a piece for a plus size woman...now here we are. I'm in awe.
Anyway, the runway show took place on a beautiful Monday afternoon and the United Nations. Beautiful woman after beautiful woman strut down the runway, and Lane Bryant's inclusive effort even had some bloggers walk (Go Beck! Go Gabi! Go Reah! Go Nicolette!). Followed by a summit with Jill Scott, Sherri Shepard, Philomena Kwao, Mikki Taylor, and Danielle Brooks, it's safe to say this afternoon was a dream.
I received so many compliments (thank you guys!) and questions about my dress for the event. It's the one-shoulder maxi gown from the collection and it's quite stunning. It's true to size (I'm wearing the 18), but because I'm smaller up top, I had to take the shoulder in because the top was a bit loose on me. To cover up my botched stitching (haha), I covered with a handful of flower brooches from H&M - similar to what I did for my wedding dress. The end result was an elegant gown that I need to find more occasions to wear for! I topped with a gold choker necklace and an armful of bracelets for a regal look.
