Hotel Review: Kimpton Mason & Rook in Washington, DC

A few weeks ago, my girlfriends and I made a last-minute decision to trek to Washington, DC for the Bronx Science Alumni Weekend. Saturday night's private excursion through the National Museum of African American History & Culture museum was just a blip on the radar; it was our stay at Kimpton Mason & Rook that made our 48 hours in DC memorable. The boutique spot directly in between Dupont Circle and Shaw was a perfect location. It was easily accessible to everything (I took a $5 Uber's everywhere all weekend, and a $15 Uber to Eloquii's store in Virginia!), and had plenty around it (midnight run down the block to Shake Shack anyone?).

The front seating area houses an ornate coffee banquette where the hotel hosts happy hours everyday. To the right of the entrance is a comfortable seating area with plush seating and art, and the wooden wall installations are a conversation starter. As soon as you step into Kimpton Mason & Rook, it feels warm and inviting. I love that about the place.Kimpton Mason Rook Hotel 13

The Radiator

Kimpton Mason Rook Hotel 20I think my favorite part of the Kimpton Mason & Rook experience (outside of the huge soaking tub!) is the Radiator restaurant. The mood is just the right amount of grown & sexy and there's zero pretense, which is refreshing for a New Yorker. Everyone's just there to chill. They have a kimchi that's to die for and a very delicious brunch spread. Be sure to ask for Jeff! He was so sweet and accommodated our many, many dietary restrictions. The after-work crowd was buzzing at Radiator, and the fun weekend crowd of families staying at the hotel was really nice. It was never so busy that it felt super crowded, and the coffee is divine. Kimpton Mason Rook Hotel 6Kimpton Mason Rook Hotel 7Kimpton Mason Rook Hotel 25

The Room

I visited Kimpton Mason & Rook with three of my girlfriends so we booked a Queen Queen Spa Room (I have an obsession with soaking tubs, who doesn't?). The room was huge, the beds were super comfortable, and there was plenty of space for the four of us. At one point one was in the toilet room, one was in the shower, and two were in the mirror doing makeup simultaneously! We had no issue with space. The temperature was even and the big flat screen TV on the wall was a plus. My only complaint was the price of room service. With the addition of DC taxes and fees, my breakfast came with a hefty price tag so we just got dressed and ate downstairs for the duration of the trip.

Overall, our stay at Kimpton Mason & Rook was very memorable and one we plan to do again. I love a boutique feel and this definitely lived up to my expectations. From the lovely, fun staff to the amenities and location, Kimpton Mason & Rook is worth it.
