During AfroPunk's 2016 festival, my girls Elann and Jen came in from LA so we wanted to find a place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to stay so we found a gorgeous Airbnb to stay at. This place has 2 bedrooms, a very open-concept living space, and a fire escape where you can take in the GORGEOUS view of the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges.
The living space was so spacious, obviously, because it's a loft. The blue velvet tufted couch was very comfortable and can actually sleep a shorter friend, the two armchairs were very cozy - I sat for a few hours and braided my friend's hair! We hung out in the living room quite a bit, listening to the record player (there was a handful of records in the library), sipping coffee and planning out the day. There's a beautiful chandelier that sets a nice mood at night; we came home from the festival on day one, threw on some music, and danced and drank wine for a few hours before knocking out.
We loved the mix of eclectic seating and lighting, the fact that we could open the door to the fire escape and enjoy the view, and we could have a full spread for brunch laid out on the huge dining table (which we then put a full table of accessories on later in the day).
The kitchen is very makeshift, which adds to the charm of it. We had a little bit of trouble lighting the stove though (I'm a New Yorker and have dealt with gas stoves for my entire life so I was able to figure it out), but you had to lift the top and light the pilot light with a match. Only two of the four burners lit up. We only cooked one big meal during our stay (shrimp and grits, texas toast, coffee and sangria...to give you an idea of what you can accomplish here) so it wasn't a huge deal, but we did struggle. If you don't plan on being in the house too much, this will not bother you in the slightest.
The pots and dishes were an issue for me, however - there weren't many pots but there were plenty of dishes. The ones that were available were very dirty and so was the sponge to clean them. We had to go to the Urban Market down the block for food anyway so I picked one up. I made sure to soak and scrub every cup before we used them. Again, if you are planning to dine out or have food delivered (which we did the second day), this will not be a problem for you.
I did appreciate that there was a kitchen, though. It beat being in a hotel.
Seeing as how my girls and I are bigger ladies, I honestly was concerned about the support of the beds. We were totally fine! Two of us slept in the room without the cabinet (queen size), and the other friend slept in the room with the monogrammed blanket (full size). We had absolutely nothing to worry about. We slept so comfortably, and ended up sleeping in because the beds were so good. We also had the AC blasting in there, I will say the rooms get very cold!
Overall, this was an amazing stay. We were right across the street from the infamous Italian restaurant Patrizia's, down the block from the Urban Market if you want to pick up groceries, there's a coffee shop and burger joint right downstairs, and you're a five-minute car ride from the hopping section of Williamsburg. I'd definitely recommend this loft.
