Sexy Seafood: Cull & Pistol Review

While in college, I spent quite a bit of time in Chelsea Market (I worked at Eleni's Bakery) and never once did I look twice at Cull & Pistol. New York Fashion Week forced me in the Market a number of times this past two weeks, and Tineey and I - starved from the hours-long GenBeauty Creator Day - found recluse in Cull & Pistol. She's a sucker for an oyster bar, and I've turned to shrimp as my "other meat" since becoming pescetarian two months ago. A win-win situation.

Cull & Pistol is the refined older brother of The Lobster Place, and with that distinction comes rules. We arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen closed between lunch and dinner so we had to rush our order, and we could only sit at the bar to enjoy oyster happy hour. The hostess did not do a great job of explaining this, and we observed her fluster a number of patrons after us. More her fault than a reflection of the restaurant itself.

Let me say, before anything else, the food at Cull & Pistol is BANGING. We ended up with another round of the new bay fries because they were addictive, the lobster ramen was so succulent, the salmon poke was succulent, and the french press coffee hit the spot. We were stuffed by the end of our meal, and it all came up to less than $100 including the tip and tax (which is very impressive for fresh seafood in NYC).

My advice? Make your way there during Happy Hour, Mon - Fri from 4 to 6 PM. The music selection was great (I jammed to old school hip-hop), and the lights dimmed as soon as the clock hit 4:00. This is a great place to take a date before walking it off at the High Line, or a pit stop before meeting friends for drinks in Meatpacking.
