5 Things to do in NYC in the Summer
1. Ride the MTA Ferry.
I had the pleasure of riding the NYC ferry from Soundview to Wall Street with a friend, and it was glorious. On a perfect day with scattered clouds and a kick of a breeze, the ride on the ferry felt like a cruise. The quiet of isolation + the rush of the waves = tranquility I didn't know I could get from The Bronx. There are nine routes for different parts of the city. I think I'm going to challenge myself to ride at least three or four of these routes this summer!
2. Have lunch outside.
Literally just pick up and go anywhere. Enjoy the sun on your skin.
3. Have a picnic in the Park (that's not Central Park).
NYC's most famous park is not the only park here! Every borough has its own version of Central Park, but there are also a number of secret gardens throughout New York City. Paley Park is one of my favorite pocket parks to catch a seat in the middle of shopping on Fifth Avenue. Elevated Acre is one of the city's newest additions and has quickly become a crowd favorite.
4. Stumble on an Evening Concert.
NYC is notorious for its summer concert series. So many nooks and crannies of the city have things going. Though theater, Shakespeare in the Park is also a NYC summer favorite. Newcomer's Pier 17 and Hudson Yards have plenty going on.
5. Ride the Metro North and catch some nature.
Have you ever ridden the Metro North? Hop on it one day and end up somewhere new. I ended up in Hastings on Hudson today and did not want to leave! There are so many towns along the rivers of New York City. Go catch DIA:Beacon or twirl on the fields of Storm King Center!
...and most of all be safe and have fun.
