8 Things Being 28 Taught me

01 | BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF WORTH + ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF

2015 has been one huge lesson in faith. My confidence really took a hit when I switched careers; now that I was finally doing what I've always wanted to do, I constantly questioned whether I should actually be here. At points I thought I wasn't cut out for it, and my management wasn't helping the situation. I eventually advocated for myself and believed in my work and what I can bring to my company. I'm now in a position that I love.

This was also applicable in my personal life. If you follow me on Facebook, I posted an article on toxic parents a while back (which was received very well, thank you!). I eventually stood up for myself and who I am as an adult, and am now at a place where I'm comfortable with my familial relationships. Que sera, sera.

02 | LIFE IS BIGGER THAN YOU

Getting married will change your perspective on everything. Though my husband and I were dating since college, something just "clicks" when you get married. I all of a sudden feel this immense need to protect him and to take better care of myself...for both of us. I am also now deeply invested in the idea of family and realizing overall that this life is bigger that me. The realization is life-changing.

03 | COMFORT OVER CUTENESS

Listen. I know I have a fashion blog and everything, but you do NOT have to sacrifice your comfort to look cute! If your heels are not comfortable, DO NOT WEAR THEM. If your outfit is too tight, DO NOT WEAR IT. I'm serious, it's really not worth it. This year, I've put on some weight and I've had to readjust my wardrobe big time. I've learned the value of a good fit and knowing not to squeeze myself into things that don't work for me like they used to. I have these NYDJ Jeans that I live in, because the high-waist makes them easy to wear with everything, the material is so soft, and the stretch makes them comfortable. I'm not playing around!

04 | QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

Another tidbit that is applicable to multiple aspects of my life, I'm learning that quality trumps quantity. I'd rather have four amazing friends than fourteen flaky ones. One beautiful faux fur coat than five that shed...you catch my drift. I've donated an insane amount of clothing because really, do I need nine moto jackets? Nope.

05 | NEGATIVE FEELINGS ARE NOT WORTH IT

One thing marriage has really taught me, and I will hold onto forever, is that negative feelings are not worth holding onto. Grudges are so passé. I've had SO many negative feelings this year and I've worked very hard to learn not to internalize them too much. Feeling them are natural, but holding onto them doesn't hurt anyone but you. Relax, reset, release.

06 | BE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

Always have a plan. It's actually better to overplan. I'm going into 2016 with a clear head and heavy plan because life events got ahead of me this year, and I lost a bit of control with my projects. Plan, plan, plan and track, track, track so you can set goals for all of your years moving forward.

07 |  STEP OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

This one is a bit obvious, but stepping outside of your comfort zone can change your life.

08 | LEARN TO BE FLEXIBLE

While having a plan, sometimes things don't happen the way you want them to ...and that is fine. Learning to be flexible and deal with obstacles opened my eyes to new opportunities. Go into the world with the heart to receive, and you will.
